Embed Biotech is excited to announce the appointment of Laura Whitsitt as a Non-Executive Director, effective 15 October 2025.
Laura brings more than 35 years of experience in the global medical device industry. She has held a series of senior leadership roles at Smith+Nephew, culminating in Senior Vice President, Research & Development, Orthopaedics. In this role, she oversaw global orthopaedics innovation strategy, new product development, and lifecycle management across a broad portfolio of technologies.
Over the course of her career, Laura has led large, cross-functional teams and played a key role in advancing orthopaedic and surgical technologies. Her expertise spans product development, emerging technologies, regulatory and intellectual property strategy, and organisational leadership.
Laura is an NACD-certified board director with significant governance experience across commercial and non-profit organisations. She has previously held board roles with the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce, LaunchTN, and other organisations supporting entrepreneurship, education, and the life sciences sector.

Following her retirement from Smith+Nephew in 2022, Laura has been working as a leadership and executive coach, advising organisations on governance, leadership development, and medical device innovation.
Her appointment reflects Embed Biotech’s commitment to strengthening its Board with experienced leaders who bring deep technical expertise and strong governance capabilities.
