Science behind Embed Biotech wins more international awards

Two awards from the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS) recognise research underpinning Embed's bioelectronic implants for faster, more reliable healing.

Embed Biotech collaborator Dr Sasza Nabilla and product development engineer Kenton Wong have been recognised for their research underpinning Embed’s bioelectronic implant technology at the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS) meeting in Madrid, 23-25 September 2026.

Aesculap Award, 1st Place: Dr Sasza Nabilla

Imperial researcher Dr Sasza Nabilla won 1st Place in the Aesculap Award session for her work on “Reprogramming Osseointegration Pathways with Bioelectronic Implants”.

Her in vivo research shows how bioelectronic stimulation alters the proteins produced during bone healing, promoting faster and more mature bone formation into and around an orthopaedic implant. The work provides important mechanistic evidence for the technology Embed is developing.

The award is a prestigious recognition of Sasza’s work, and a real motivator for the team as we work to bring faster, more reliable bone healing to patients.

Best New Investigator Poster Presentation: Kenton Wong

Embed product development engineer Kenton Wong won Best Poster Presentation for “Promoting Osteogenic Activity and Matrix Organisation with Implant-delivered Ultrasound”.

The research originated from Kenton’s Imperial Master’s thesis, which also won the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Prize. His lab work explored how stimulation changes the way bone cells produce and organise mineralised tissue on implant surfaces.

Kenton said: “It was an amazing opportunity to present this work to such a respected international scientific community. To then have the work recognised, especially alongside the wider research behind Embed’s technology, made the experience even more rewarding, and I’m so grateful to have had such a supportive team at Embed throughout.”

Our CEO Thomas Hall commented: “Congratulations to Sasza and Kenton. Their research is helping build the scientific foundation of the technology we’re working to translate for patients. Both bring exceptional scientific curiosity and rigour to their work, and I’m proud to see those qualities recognised with these awards.”
